Friday Free For All

This week has been a whirlwind! I can't believe it's already Friday?!

Spring had sprung this week and we've had a lot of time outside playing as a family. Watching my boys bond is seriously one of the most heartwarming and rewarding experiences a parent could ever ask for in life.   The memories we are making can't be topped.

His first time getting to purposely ride through the puddles!

Aside from lots of family time, work has been at a dull roar lately, which is a welcome change!

Carson has been signed up for his first kids fun run in just 2 weeks and we've been training for it together. He's such a good runner! I think we found his sport!  School has still be a struggle for him, as you may have seen in my post about his anxiety. Next Tuesday I have a meeting (Chris can't go due to work) with the school to discuss possible evaluation and putting a plan in place for addressing his behavioral and emotional needs.  I'm not too optimistic about it, but that's more than I can fit into today's post. I will have to write about it next week!

Jonathan is so close to walking all over! He will let go and take a few steps but doesn't venture all the way across the room just yet....I'm thinking he will do it before he's one next month though for sure.

Anyways, enough rambling for now! Time to enjoy the nice weather some more before it cools off again next week.

Stop the "Meaners"

Carson has a word he likes to use when someone isn't being nice. Meaner. He calls a person a "meaner" when he/she isn't being nice, doesn't do what is expected of them, etc. Today's post is about these folks...the "meaners".

As a parent we try to raise our children to be kind to others. To not pick on other kids. To NEVER. EVER. BE. A. BULLY! But how can we expect our children to behave nicely to others when we as adults can't be kind?

A few things that have occurred in our lives recently that I have been offended by. Actually, a couple even had me downright outraged! As parents we should be setting a GOOD example, not tearing each other down.  How can anyone think it is acceptable to sit at a sporting event/practice and make fun of children who are out there on the playing field pouring their little hearts into what they are doing? If you aren't afraid to use derogatory words toward a child or family while you are sitting within earshot of the parents, then I find it hard to believe that you don't act the same way around your child! But you better believe that if YOUR child was at the butt of the joke or comment that you would be offended and expect action to be taken against the other parent or child who committed the offense. Some of us actually can see through your "holier than thou" charade you put on. And then there's the ones who are right there with you, acting like a child and being disrespectful to others with you! Unacceptable. Especially as parents!

As parents we are supposed to be teaching our children respect for others, for their peers, for their elders. I'm not saying I'm perfect, never have been, and never will be, nor do I claim to be. HOWEVER, I do try my hardest to not be judgmental and if I do think something about someone, I sure as heck don't say it in front of my 5 year old!

Oh, and another thing. The mommy wars....oh will they ever stop!? Just because you stay home and another mom works, doesn't mean you don't love your children the same amount. Formula fed vs. breastfed, disposable diapers vs. cloth diapers, cosleep vs. crib sleep, CIO vs. sleep training....the list goes on and on.

We need to be bringing our children up in a nurturing, kind environment. People wonder why kids are so mean and why they often treat other bad, are bullies, or commit crime against others. WAKE UP PARENTS! You are raising them to be that way. Until we change our ways as adults and start to care for each other, our children will continue to follow by our example. Children are little sponges and soak up everything we do, good and bad. We have to be the change we want to see in our children. We have to be nice to other parents. Don't break them down, help build them up!

So I invite you to stand up to the bullies with me. STOP the "MEANERS"!

My 10th Class Reunion

A few weeks ago I attended (hosted actually) my 10th class reunion. I should start by telling you that I went to a small school. My graduating class was 72. Crazy, I know.

Anyways, I had a great time just catching up with some of my classmates and watching our kids play together at the park. The weather was great, the grilling was good, and the company even better! I even brought our year books from 1st grade through Senior year. It was blast looking back at all those memories with my friends

Here's some pics from the afternoon.
Everyone that was there. (sorry its so far away)

Discussing yearbooks, and fun memories!

C and his friend J. They played so well together for having just met!
Can't believe it's 10 years. Everyone there wanted to do it again at 15! Dont know if I'm up for planning that one too.

Out of the mouth of Cman...

Being the mom of a 4 year old, I never know what is going to come out of his mouth. I'm sure some of you can relate to that!

Lately he's been telling people that he's getting a baby brother AND a baby sister. This is news to me! But what he wants he gets, so he's probably not too far off with that one. *wink* *wink*

Some of my favorite, funny, and odd things he says, and my favorite recent conversation with him are as follows:

C: Mom do you know Kylan's mom?
Me: Yes honey, she's a nurse for a heart doctor.
C: So does she use one of those pumperscopes too?
Me: A what?
C: You know to check your heart, a pumpherscope. (By this point he's mimicing taking blood pressure on his arm)
Me: Oh you mean a stethoscope and taking blood pressure to check your heart? Yes she does.

---Actually.... (usually followed by something funny or sarcastic, but that he thinks is serious)
---Well, that's not good (about ANYTHING that he's unsure of or doesn't know what to say about, even if it is a good thing)
---Whatsay?
---Whatcha doooin'?
---Mom, there's boobs! Do you need some new ones? (whenever he sees bras in the store)
---Mom, are ya poopin'? You poop a lot. (every time I sit down to use the toilet in the store, even if it's just to pee!)
